For the data management team integrating EHRs at the insuretech provider Clareto, merely ingesting records and converting data formats (e.g., C-CDA to FHIR) wasn’t enough to improve the risk assessment process for its customers (life insurance companies). Enrichment was critical to ensure risk assessment decisions were being based on all the data contained in the EHR records. Enrichment involves medical terminology standardization, consistent formatting, and the coding of uncoded data to make it uniform, and optimized and complete.
Clareto adopted CareEvolution®’s Convert API to automate the conversion, standardization, and analytic readiness of its raw EHR clinical data into an enriched, consolidated patient record. The API processed inbound formats CDA, HL7, FHIR, and X12 and deduped documents into a combined FHIR bundle with a single unified view. This view organizes the data within the combined FHIR bundle into categories such as medical encounters, diagnoses, treatments, medications, and lab results so that Clareto’s life insurance customers can analyze medical history and assess risk more efficiently.
